JOB OVERVIEW

We are looking to bring onboard a Senior Account Director with a healthcare PR focus.

The Senior Account Director (SAD) is a transitional role between Account Director and Associate Director. The SAD begins to assume the majority lead in terms of providing strategic direction to clients and also on certain aspects of business direction (in terms of functional plans) to the MDs/CEO.

The SAD will start to become more heavily involved in medium and long-term resource planning across the HSO team, as well as become more responsible for individual HSO team member development.

The SAD will also play a key role in driving the business forward through the identification and of new business opportunities and proposal/pitch documentation

Skills Required

Account Direction and Management

  • Oversee multiple, designated accounts, appropriately directing account team activity
  • Provide direction, inspiration and strategic counsel under the guidance of an Associate Director, MD or CEO
  • Develop integrated, multichannel communications programmes with measurable outcomes
  • Play a leading role in helping guide and set performance targets with the client
  • Monitor progress on account against targets, make necessary changes to activity (alongside your account lead) to ensure these are achieved
  • Evaluate success of projects and overall programmes
  • Take accountability for the profitable management of individual programme elements
  • Provide direction and guidance on identified organic growth opportunities to secure project/s and associated income
  • Ensure all written communication across the agency is of the highest possible quality (good grammar; spell-checked)
  • Formulate and handle issues response where appropriate
  • Continue to give shape, coherence and direction to all written materials, ensuring they meet strategic needs and oversee quality control for all written materials

Communications (PR, Advocacy and Medical Communications)

  • Provide strategic and tactical direction and input to documents including pitches, proposals (including annual plans/budgets) and presentations
  • Develop integrated, multichannel communications programmes with measurable outcomes
  • Maintain and cultivate strategic media contacts and contact with key editors
  • Drive the development and implementation of issues/crisis management 
  • Continue to give shape, coherence and direction to all written materials, ensuring they meet strategic needs and oversee quality control for all written materials
  • Continue to strengthen external relationships with industry experts and identify opportunities to leverage partnerships
  • Demonstrate depth and breadth of communications skills and experience through competent direction of all facets of the communications programme

Client Activity

  • Contribute to client strategy and thinking
  • Demonstrate the ability to consult at the highest levels of client organisation and be recognised as a member of the senior team
  • Demonstrate an understanding of the wider marketing mix and be able to provide senior client counsel 
  • Take responsibility for client satisfaction, retention and development
  • Achieve client ‘buy in’ and support for programme activity, or changes of direction if necessary
  • Maintain regular contact with clients regarding account direction and resourcing
  • Proactively challenge clients where necessary
  • Ensure an annual external strategic review of client accounts is executed
  • Chair/facilitate internal/client meetings

People Leadership & Management

  • Help lead and motivate lines and account team members by providing support and guidance, to ensure they fulfil their potential – offer suggestions to improve team working practices
  • Demonstrate maturity and ‘gravitas’ both internally and externally
  • Actively encourage team members to be more creative and innovative in their approach
  • Conduct regular appraisals (where you are responsible) and ensure challenging and SMART personal development objectives are set
  • Assist with the recruitment of new team members when necessary
  • Identify areas of development where necessary and highlight to line manager, senior management team and HR
  • Provide coaching to lines when necessary
  • Champion team members internally and externally

Business Management

  • Demonstrate a thorough understanding of the company’s vision and business objectives, and appreciation/understanding of the bigger company picture (staffing, financials, etc)
  • Assist with the development of the overall organisation’s business plan
  • Effectively lead and service a minimum of £350k worth of business per annum
  • Play leading role in responsibility for identifying converting new business leads (including leading the development of new business pitches) to maintain or ideally exceed the required business quota
  • Ensure accounts are serviced profitably through effective accurate fee forecasting and staffing level projections
  • Participate and contribute to management meetings, assuming responsibility for a clearly defined functional group role

Industry Awareness

  • Keep updated on the ABPI, PAGB codes and MHRA and other international regulatory bodies that impact on client business
  • Utilise understanding of the NHS/international health systems and broader health environment, applying growing knowledge towards the implementation and development of client and new business programmes (UK and global)
  • Start to build an in depth knowledge of the pharmaceutical industry, HSO, and client environment
  • Keep updated on new developments within the Healthcare industry and other Communications agency activity

Generating Business

  • Assist with the identification of new business prospects and development of leads
  • Help structure, plan resources and lead new business team through the pitch process
  • Provide assistance to ASD/board directors in developing proposal document, pitch strategy and slide presentation.
